If an Améo Essential Oil is organic, you can view the organic certification on our Zija Difference database.
Are organic oils considered better than non-organic oils?
Organic is tied to following strict farming and auditing practices, not to quality standards. All Améo non-organic oils pass our strict CERTI-5 clinical-grade verification process.
Do all organic oils in the marketplace today pass the CERTI-5 clinical-grade verification process?
No. Organic is a process term, not a quality term. Organic farming practices can be compromised by environmental issues or nearby farms outside of their control. All organic or non-organic Améo Essential Oils pass our strict CERTI-5 clinical-grade verification process, which is proprietary to Améo.
Why is the organic Mandarin oil green in color?
Technically speaking, this Tangerine is actually a Mandarin, but the Tangerine and Mandarin come from the same botanical family, Citrus reticulata. Tangerines are lighter in color. The green color of our oil comes from harvesting the fruit before it becomes ripe.
Will Améo be introducing additional organic oils in the future?
Améo values organic farming practices, but requires CERTI-5 clinical-grade quality standards. We evaluate both organic and non-organic oils in our continued research and development processes. Only the very best oils can receive a CERTI-5 validation, regardless of whether they are organic or non-organic.
What are the most common ways to use essential oils?
Aromatically- Diffusing the essential oil in an Ultrasonic diffuser, Nebulizing diffuser, direct inhalation and indirect inhalation
Topically- Diluting the essential oil then adding the mixture to the desired area, massage, or to the acupoints of the body
Ingestion- Adding 1-2 drops in beverages, adding essential oil to your favorite meals or Zija products, adding 1-2 drops of essential oil to a vegetable capsule then take like a pill.

Are all essential oils safe to ingest?
The internal consumption of certain essential oils has been approved and are on the Food and Drug Administration's GRAS list. However, as listed on the GRAS list, essential oils should not be consumed by children or people with serious medical conditions without consulting a physician.
Can essential oils get into the body if I only inhale them?
Yes. Essential oils are highly concentrated, volatile liquids that can have an effect on the 11 systems of the body within minutes without coming into direct contact with the skin.
Are essential oils safe to use while pregnant or nursing?
Pregnancy is a very delicate condition, especially during the first trimester and the use of essential oils could adversely affect the baby in the early development stages and that requires more caution to be taken. If you are pregnant or a nursing mother, you should consult a physician before using any essential oils. Here are some extra precautions for essential oil use:
Dilution - Rather than applying oil directly to your body, dilute in a carrier oil first then apply to the bottoms of your feet.
Aromatically - Diffusing essential oils can be a safer way and does not come in contact with the mother's sensitive skin.
Are essential oils safe to put on my children?
Some essential oils can be toxic to children, a physician or pediatrician should always be consulted before using any essential oils on children. It is important to treat these potent liquids as if they are medications and keep them out of reach of children. Some Améo Essential Oils have child resistant caps on them because they contain Mugwort and Wintergreen.
Are essential oils safe for all pets?
Just like with humans, research and caution is advised when using essential oils on pets. Some, but not all, essential oils can be used on pets. Animals metabolize things differently, especially cats, than humans do and the liver of an animal may not have the enzymes to break down certain chemicals. The liver will store the chemicals until it can figure out how to get rid of them and overtime this will cause the animal to get sick or suddenly die. There are essential oils that can be very beneficial to pets but heavy dilution is always recommended, especially with dogs because their sense of smell is 50-100 times stronger than a human's. Some essential oils can be toxic for some puppies, kittens, very small animals or birds.
What are the best places to apply the Améo Clinical Grade Essential Oils for faster absorption?
Most essential oils can be applied almost anywhere on the body with exception of the eyes and inside the ears. However, the fastest absorption occurs in areas where there are several blood vessels. The sole of the foot is an ideal place for application due to the amount of blood vessels and the warmth.
What is the Améo CERTI-5 Process?
Most companies who market essential oils would agree that purity and quality are two of the most important aspects of any essential oil. The quality of the oil is determined by plant growth, the climate, how and when the botanicals are harvested, and the extraction method used to obtain the botanical liquid. At Ameo our entire purpose was to discover the highest “verifiable standard has not yet been developed by any other company. No other essential oil company will have this PATENTEDscience/technology and the consumer will be able to verify for themselves the quality of every batch of oil.
Below is the detailed information about the CERTI-5 process overseen by Dr. Joshua Plant:
These are just a few of the steps taken during the sourcing process:
- Only the correct botanical varieties and parts are used for each oil.
- Plant origins are carefully researched and assessed to ensure ideal growing locations, climates, and harvesting seasons.
- Améo seeks out farming partners who can provide organic botanicals whenever possible.
- Farms and their growing and harvesting processes are vetted through site visits and investigation to ensure sustainability, ethicality toward the environment and employees, eco-friendly practices, and raw material excellence.
- In addition to Améo’s stringent testing, our partners must also test and validate the botanicals and oils that they provide to us.
- The distillation techniques used to extract Améo Essential Oils incorporate the latest and greatest practices, technology, and equipment
We ensure the quality and purity validation process of our oils by performing the following series of tests:
- Organoleptic Testing: Tests the basic aspects of the oil as experienced by the user’s senses, such as sight, smell, touch and taste.
- Microbial Testing: Checks for hazardous pathogens including fungi, bacteria, viruses and mold throughout the manufacturing and production process.
- Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) Testing: Separates and analyzes the qualitative and quantitative compounds found in the essential oil to ensure that its concentration of compounds is unique.
- Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) Testing: Infrared light is passed through a sample in a range of frequencies to measure the amount of light absorbed; then the potency and quality of the oil is determined by identifying its overall structure compared to a high standard.
- Heavy Metal Testing: By utilizing Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscope (ICP-MS) testing, oil samples are separated into individual elements and analyzed by our experts to confirm that they are free of heavy metals.
- Specific Gravity: Each essential oil contains a unique set of constituents. In a temperature-controlled environment each oil has a predictable weight. If the weight is not in an acceptable range, it is rejected for use.
- Optical Rotation & Refractive Index: These tests measure the degree, speed, and way light passes through each essential oil. If the behavior of the light is not as expected, the oil is impure and is unacceptable for use.
Any company that sells oils for therapeutic use should perform these tests. Améo then goes above and beyond by taking extra steps to validate that our oils pass strict CERTI-5 qualifications. A CERTI-5 endorsement, available exclusively to Améo Essential Oils, means that our products meet USP (United States Pharmacopia) standards, meet AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation) standards, meet AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation) standards, meet ISO-Quality Testing criterion, and pass the following additional unique tests:
Clinical-Grade Validation Testing
Améo’s Scientific Advisory Board analyzes and compares the results of the above-mentioned tests to the results of oils often used in clinical and peer-reviewed scientific studies. This is done using industry-leading instrumentation, which gives the highest possible resolution needed to find the best match to clinical oils. This final process guarantees that each and every one of our oils is clinical-grade and will provide maximum benefit to the body.
Cell Activity and Permeability Testing
This testing sets Améo Essential Oils apart from the rest. Through a patent-pending process, unique fluorescent labeling, and confocal microscopy visualization, we can validate the cell activity and permeability of each of our oils on a variety of living cells such as kidney, skin, brain and intestinal cells. This ensures that they are easily and consistently absorbed and utilized by the body’s cells the way they were meant to be.
Because we’re so confident in the quality and purity of our oils, we’ve created a complete “Meet Your Améo Oil” system. You can go to Amèo.com, enter the unique batch code on the bottom of the bottle, and instantly gain access to the tests performed on that batch of oil and their results. We also include videos of the oil permeating live cells and further training on its benefits.
What is the shelf life of Améo Essential Oils?
If stored properly, our oils will generally last 2+ years.
Some products have expiration dates (Nutritionals, Caps, GenM Products, etc.) while Améo Essential Oils, Moringa Silk Hand Creme, and Lip Balms have a manufacturing date.
The Fractionated Coconut Oil has a nearly indefinite shelf life

What is an orifice reducer?
An orifice reducer is a small, plastic insert made to withstand the potency of essential oils. This is used to reduce the size of the opening of the bottle which makes dispensing the oil easier.
Why do some Améo Essential Oils look half full?
The amount of essential oil in a bottle can be deceiving to the eye due to several variables including the thickness of the bottle and viscosity and temperature of the oil.
Our manufacturing vacility carefully monitors the production of our Améo Essential Oils and are instructed to slightly overfill the bottle to ensure they meet the label claim.
How are Améo Essential Oils extracted and stored?
Améo's Clinical-Grade Essential Oils are cold-pressed or steam distilled in equipment made of stainless steel and/or copper to protect the fragile chemical components of the oil. After the full distillation process, we test the oil to ensure top quality and store it in a steel container lined with food grade material to prevent the steel from leaching into the oil. The food grade material will not alter or harm the chemical components of the essential oil.
What is a Child Resistant Cap and why is it needed?
Child Resistant Caps (CRC) are required by “Poisons Prevention Packaging Act” (PPPA) for certain products which can be harmful to children. These products must include child resistant packaging and must pass the testing procedures under code US 16 CFR § 1700.20.
Can we send customers regular caps for Améo oils that come with a CRC?
No. Unfortunately, the Child Resistant Caps are designed to be difficult to open to prevent child poisoning and they are required by federal law. We cannot send a small orifice cap to the customers in place of the CRC due to liability reasons.
What is AFNOR and ISO?
Association French Normalization Organization Regulation (AFNOR) is a French organization that developed certain standards for essential oils. These standards pertain to perfume or fragrance grade oils only. They don't certify oils for therapeutic use.
International Standardization Organization (ISO) has adopted the AFNOR standard for essential oils as the international standard.
